Kreuzritter GmbH & Co. KG is a German spirits company based in Mühlen in Lower Saxony, in the Oldenburger Münsterland region. The company was founded in 2004 by three specialists from different fields – a physician, a nutrition scientist and a spirits expert – who combined their knowledge to develop distinctive spirits based on natural ingredients and elaborate recipes.
The company built its range around individually branded products rather than using “Kreuzritter” as the name of every spirit. Its portfolio has included herbal and fruit liqueurs, gin, Korn and aquavit, with products such as Kreuzritter Elixirum Digestivum, Herzdame, Goldengel and Dreiling Aqua Vitae. Contemporary company listings place Kreuzritter GmbH & Co. KG at Am Hövel 12 in 49439 Mühlen.
A recurring feature of Kreuzritter’s products is the use of complex botanical formulations and traditionally styled base spirits. The company has emphasized high-quality raw materials and, in several products, the avoidance of artificial flavours, colours and preservatives. Dreiling Aqua Vitae, for example, is based on three grain distillates – wheat, rye and spelt – and is matured in oak before being flavoured with caraway, anise, dill, cloves and additional botanical extracts.
Kreuzritter has therefore developed as a small German specialty-spirit producer with a focus on distinctive recipes, botanical ingredients and individually positioned brands, rather than as a conventional broad-volume distillery.
