Hof Landura

Lutzhorn, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany

Hof Landura is a family-run farm and speciality-food producer in Lutzhorn, Schleswig-Holstein, operated by the Bornholdt family. The family traces its farming and innkeeping tradition back to 1720, when its ancestors combined agriculture and livestock farming with a Krügerei offering food, drink and accommodation to travellers.

The location was closely connected with the historic Ochsenweg, the old overland route linking Denmark with northern Germany. Before the development of modern roads and railways, the Ochsenweg was one of Schleswig-Holstein’s principal trade routes and was heavily used for cattle drives and long-distance travel. Hof Landura states that the route passed through Lutzhorn and helped make the family inn an important part of the household economy.

Spirits were part of this family tradition. For celebrations and special occasions, the family prepared schnapps using purchased distillates and closely guarded recipes, working with fruits from local gardens and hedgerows as well as caraway, anise, fennel and juniper. The present Landura spirits range continues to draw on these inherited recipes, including Landura Holstein Aquavit, Bauern Kümmel, Wacholder, Kräuter Bitter and fruit spirits.

Hof Landura today operates from Hauptstraße 15 in Lutzhorn and also produces regional cheese specialities under the Landino name. The farm remains associated with the Bornholdt family and continues to market both food and spirits as Schleswig-Holstein regional products.
