Brennerei Ziegler

Brennerei Ziegler is a German distillery based in Freudenberg am Main, operating since 1865. The company originated as a brewery with an inherited distilling privilege, which allowed founder Gustav Joseph Ziegler to produce brandy alongside beer. Ziegler held qualifications as a brewer, cooper, and distiller, and the distillery developed early recognition for its fruit-based spirits.

Through the 20th century, Ziegler continued to work with traditional raw materials and manual distillation methods at its original site. In the 1980s, the introduction of the fruit spirit Ziegler No.1 Wildkirsch increased the brand’s visibility in the gastronomy sector. Ziegler later expanded its range with cask-aged distillates, and since 2008 it has also produced single malt whisky - the first whisky from the Untermain region.

Today, Brennerei Ziegler focuses on controlled small-batch production, sourcing fruit and grains selectively and maintaining a combination of historical equipment and modern techniques. The distillery remains one of the better-known producers of German fruit spirits, with distribution primarily in Germany and selected international markets.
