Hiddenseer Kutterfisch Aquavit
Lieschow, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany
Hiddenseer Kutterfisch Aquavit is a caraway-based aquavit bottled under the Hiddenseer Kutterfisch brand on the island of Hiddensee (Germany). Although marketed as a local “Inselköm”, the spirit is not distilled by the brand itself. Production is carried out on contract by the 1ste Rügener Edeldestillerie in Lieschow (Rügen), a distillery known for products such as Nordische Reinheit Aquavit and a range of organic fruit spirits.
The Hiddenseer Kutterfisch Aquavit follows a traditional northern German profile built around Kümmel (caraway) with additional aromatic herbs. The producer describes it as having a light amber color and a mild herbal character typical for the region’s aquavit tradition.
The bottling is presented in an apothecary-style bottle (500 ml, 38% vol) and is positioned as a local specialty associated with the island’s fishing culture.
