Long Table Barrel Aged Akvavit

Long Table Barrel Aged Akvavit is a barrel-aged version of the distillery’s Långbord Akvavit. It was developed as a limited or specialty expression of Long Table’s Scandinavian-style aquavit, taking the original spirit into a different direction through wood maturation.
The first references to the barrel-aged version appear in connection with Long Table’s fifth anniversary. In 2018, The Alchemist reported that the distillery was preparing a rye-barrel-aged akvavit, describing it as one of the new projects at Long Table at the time. A separate article from the same publication reported that Long Table planned to release an aquavit rested in rye casks from Woodinville Whiskey in Washington.
The barrel-aged aquavit subsequently received recognition at the 2019 Artisan Distillers Canada competition, where Long Table Distillery’s Barrel Aged Akvavit won a Gold Medal in the Aged Spirits category. The same competition awarded the regular Långbord Akvavit Gold Medal and Best in Class in the Akvavit category.
The Barrel Aged Akvavit is no longer listed among Long Table’s current products. The distillery’s present online spirits catalogue includes Långbord Akvavit, but not the barrel-aged version, which suggests that the Barrel Aged Akvavit was a limited or discontinued release rather than a permanent member of the range.

Long Table Distillery is a family-owned and operated craft distillery in Vancouver, British Columbia. It opened in February 2013 in North False Creek, becoming Vancouver’s first distillery. The founders are husband-and-wife team Charles and Rita Tremewen.
The distillery focuses on small-batch production and traditional distillation, using its custom-built 300-litre copper pot still. Long Table says its spirits are made with 100% Canadian grain-based alcohol and a combination of organic, natural and locally foraged botanicals. The water used at the distillery comes from British Columbia’s Coast Mountain Range.
Gin was at the heart of Long Table from the beginning, and it remains a major part of the distillery’s range. Its portfolio includes London Dry Gin, Cucumber Gin, Barrel-Aged Gin, Texada Vodka, Långbord Akvavit and seasonal botanical spirits such as Limoncello, Curaçao, Amaro and Absinthe.
The name Long Table comes from the distillery’s large redwood table, which the company describes as the centrepiece of its social space. The idea behind the name reflects the tradition of gathering around a large table to eat, drink and share conversation.
Long Table Distillery is located at 1451 Hornby Street in Vancouver, where its production area is combined with a retail store and tasting lounge. Its spirits are sold through liquor retailers in British Columbia and other Canadian provinces, with the company also reporting distribution to the UK and Asia.
