Long Table Långbord Akvavit
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Långbord Akvavit is a Swedish-style akvavit from Vancouver’s Long Table Distillery. It is a 42% ABV spirit, copper pot distilled according to a traditional Scandinavian recipe. The distillery describes it as a liquorice-forward akvavit built around six hand-picked botanicals, four of which are specifically identified as caraway, fennel, anise and Seville orange.
The flavour profile is distinctly aromatic. On the nose, the spirit combines liquorice with bright orange notes, while the palate is described as smooth and sweet, with lingering marmalade and herbal flavours. An independent tasting by BC Spirits describes the akvavit as particularly expressive in anise, with earthy caraway, sweet fennel and Seville orange coming through from different directions. It recommends serving the spirit chilled and neat.
Long Table itself recommends serving Långbord Akvavit directly from the freezer, where its viscosity becomes thicker. The distillery positions it both as an aperitif or digestif and as a base for cocktails, while also suggesting it in the traditional Scandinavian shot style.
The akvavit has also received international recognition. At the 2018 London Spirits Competition, Långbord Akvavit received a Bronze Medal with a score of 67 points.

Long Table Distillery
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Long Table Distillery is a family-owned and operated craft distillery in Vancouver, British Columbia. It opened in February 2013 in North False Creek, becoming Vancouver’s first distillery. The founders are husband-and-wife team Charles and Rita Tremewen.
The distillery focuses on small-batch production and traditional distillation, using its custom-built 300-litre copper pot still. Long Table says its spirits are made with 100% Canadian grain-based alcohol and a combination of organic, natural and locally foraged botanicals. The water used at the distillery comes from British Columbia’s Coast Mountain Range.
Gin was at the heart of Long Table from the beginning, and it remains a major part of the distillery’s range. Its portfolio includes London Dry Gin, Cucumber Gin, Barrel-Aged Gin, Texada Vodka, Långbord Akvavit and seasonal botanical spirits such as Limoncello, Curaçao, Amaro and Absinthe.
The name Long Table comes from the distillery’s large redwood table, which the company describes as the centrepiece of its social space. The idea behind the name reflects the tradition of gathering around a large table to eat, drink and share conversation.
Long Table Distillery is located at 1451 Hornby Street in Vancouver, where its production area is combined with a retail store and tasting lounge. Its spirits are sold through liquor retailers in British Columbia and other Canadian provinces, with the company also reporting distribution to the UK and Asia.
