No.1 Original Aquavit is the flagship aquavit from Vintersol Distillery, produced in Putney, London. It is bottled at 42% ABV in 500 ml bottles and is distilled in small batches from organic alcohol with organic caraway, pink peppercorn, fennel, aniseed and orange peel. The agricultural source of the base alcohol has not been specified.
The producer describes the profile in terms of earth, spice, autumn fruit and dried citrus, followed by a warm finish. Vintersol also uses No.1 in several of its own cocktail recipes, including an Aquavit & Tonic, Aquavit Martini and Nordic Negroni. It is also one of the components of the distillery’s bottled Hans Island cocktail, where it is combined with Canadian rye whisky, maple syrup and bitters.
No.1 was commercially available by December 2022, when The Whisky Exchange listed the 50 cl, 42% bottling among its new arrivals. In 2023 it received a Silver medal at the World Aquavit Awards, where it was entered in the Unaged category.

Vintersol Distillery developed from Sasha Bladt-Cohen’s experiments with aquavit on a small copper still in southern France. What began as a personal interest was turned into a commercial project in 2019, when Bladt-Cohen committed himself to establishing and running the distillery full time. He is identified by current industry sources as Vintersol’s founder and serves as its CEO and distiller. The business moved into its present microdistillery in Putney, southwest London, in 2021, where Vintersol says it develops, distils and bottles its products by hand.
Aquavit remains the central part of the business. In a 2025 interview, Bladt-Cohen described aquavit as Vintersol’s primary spirit, alongside a smaller gin output. Production uses a 200-litre iStill, with an iStill Mini used for testing and small custom runs; the distillery later added six iStill Nano units for its distilling workshops. Production is comparatively small and is organised largely on a just-in-time basis, with new runs made as stocks of individual products decline.
The current team listed by Vintersol includes Sasha Bladt-Cohen, CEO and distiller; Brian Cohen, Chief Operations Officer; and Jacques Rouyer Guillet, Chief Digital Officer. Vintersol operates from a railway arch at Arch 25, Winthorpe Road in Putney. Although its range has expanded beyond aquavit, the distillery continues to present aquavit as the foundation of the project, with No.1 and No.2 Original Aquavit forming its core unaged expressions and separate work on cask-aged aquavit.
