Treibholz Akvavit

Germany Bahrenfleth, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
Barrel-Aged Aquavit

Treibholz Akvavit is a barrel-aged akvavit produced by Holsteiner Geister in Bahrenfleth, Schleswig-Holstein. The spirit matures for more than two years in ex-bourbon barrels sourced from the Four Roses distillery in Kentucky (USA). These casks were emptied at the Four Roses distillery in the United States, then shipped across the Atlantic and only refilled with aquavit after arriving in the Elbmarsch region.

During the prolonged maturation, the typical caraway profile becomes less pronounced and merges with the cask-derived notes of American white oak, including vanilla, light nut tones, and subtle wood character. Treibholz is produced in small batches as part of Holsteiner Geister’s handcrafted regional spirits.
