Seedüvel – Haus “Aquavit”
Langeoog, Lower Saxony, Germany
Seedüvel – Haus “Aquavit” is a local, small-batch spirit produced by Seekrug (Recktenwald OHG) on the island of Langeoog. The product is described as a kümmel-based liqueur (“Kümmel-Aufgesetzter”) refined with honey, intended as a mild, coastal-style interpretation of an aquavit. Despite the name, neither the bottle nor the official product page provides an alcohol percentage, and no technical data such as ABV is disclosed.
Because another Seekrug product, the Haus “Schnaps” Inselsanddorn, is bottled at only 24% vol, and because Seedüvel is explicitly referred to as a liqueur-like preparation, it is reasonable to assume that Seedüvel likely has a similar low alcohol content. If this is the case, the spirit would not meet the EU minimum requirement for aquavit, which is ≥ 37.5% alcohol by volume.
Accordingly, Seedüvel – Haus “Aquavit“ should be regarded as a regional, flavored kümmel liqueur rather than a true aquavit in the legal sense, with limited distribution and no published production details.
