Schlei Aquavit is a small-batch regional aquavit created by Thomas Köhler in Borgwedel (Schleswig-Holstein). First released in 2010, it represents the tradition of the Ostsee-Fjord Schlei region and follows a classic northern style with caraway and a light touch of dill. The bottling is handled by Onyx Vertrieb (Borgwedel), a company active in contract bottling and distribution rather than distillation. As a result, Schlei Aquavit should be viewed as a niche, privately developed spirit with limited local availability rather than a widely distributed commercial product.

Onyx Vertrieb is a German beverage company based in Borgwedel, Schleswig-Holstein, and is associated with beverage developer Thomas Köhler. Köhler has worked in the wine and spirits trade since the 2000s, initially specialising in imported spirits before developing his own range of beverages.
In 2010, he introduced Schlei Aquavit, his first own spirits project. The portfolio was subsequently expanded with products including Hafennutte and Wellenbrecher Gin. Köhler is responsible for product development, including recipes, concepts, names and label design, with many of his products drawing on the maritime and regional identity of northern Germany.
Onyx Vertrieb operates from Borgwedel near the Schlei and handles the commercial side of Köhler’s spirits range, including distribution and wholesale. The company is named as the responsible food business operator on products from the range.
