Krogstad Gamle Aquavit is an aged version of the traditional Scandinavian spirit, distilled and bottled in Portland, Oregon. It is infused with star anise and caraway, then matured for 10-12 months in used French oak Pinot Noir barrels.
The oak aging imparts a light toasted-nut character that balances the spice and mellows the intensity of the botanicals. The aroma opens with pronounced anise, followed by notes of rye bread and caraway. On the palate, subtle sweetness from natural oils complements the earthy and lightly toasted finish.
This expression received a 92-point “Exceptional” rating from the Beverage Tasting Institute.
