Barrel-Aged Aquavit Voyage-Aged

Kempers Biggesee Aquavit is a German aquavit produced in the Sauerland region by the J. J. Kemper distillery. The spirit follows a classic aquavit style with a focus on herbal and spice-driven aromas.

The recipe includes caraway, dill seeds, and ginger, complemented by young spruce tips sourced from the surrounding region. After distillation, the aquavit is matured in oak casks for a period of three months. During this time, the barrels are carried on passenger vessels operating on Lake Biggesee, where continuous movement influences the maturation process and contributes to the development of the spirit’s flavor profile.

Production is carried out by a small, family-run distillery with a long-standing tradition in grain-based spirits.

Kornbrennerei J.J. Kemper

Germany Olpe, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

Kornbrennerei J. J. Kemper is located in Olpe, in the southern Sauerland region of Germany, and was founded in 1793. It is regarded as one of the oldest grain distilleries in the country. The company was established by Kaspar Kemper, who, together with his son Johann Joseph, laid the foundations of the distillery that still operates under the same name today.
Over the years, the distillery has been managed by several local families. Since 2021, it has been operated as a family business under the leadership of Dirk Rademacher. Tradition, quality, and long-term development remain central to the company’s philosophy.
The distillery produces spirits and liqueurs with a strong focus on grain-based distillates, particularly rye. Since its founding, J. J. Kemper has used its own well water, which forms a fundamental element of the production process and contributes to the distinct character of its products.
