Unaged Aquavit

Bruder Wolfgang Aquavit is a small-batch German aquavit produced on the historic grounds of the former Cistercian monastery in Dargun, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The spirit is made and bottled under the direction of Klostervogt Jürgen Hartwig, who operates a working show distillery (Schaubrennerei) within the monastery complex. Production and sales take place exclusively on site through the Klosterladen Dargun, located in the former monastic brewhouse.

The aquavit is named after Wolfgang Streblow, a local historian who has guided visitors through the monastery for more than 25 years. At cultural and culinary events he appears in traditional monastic robes under the name “Bruder Wolfgang,” making him a recognizable figure associated with the location’s historical interpretation.

The recipes used for spirits in Dargun draw on regional monastic traditions and family lore said to trace back to the 14th century and to the era of Klostervogt Hartwig, a historical official of the monastery. According to local accounts, knowledge of herbs and restorative preparations was passed down over generations and forms the basis of the distillery’s modern products.
