64° Reykjavík Distillery Dill Aquavit is a clear Icelandic taffel-style aquavit built around organic dill seed and Icelandic botanicals. The distillery’s current product description names dill seed, foraged angelica and wild Arctic thyme, while export and bottle documentation also identify rhubarb stalks and crowberries among the botanicals used.
The aquavit is made from a sourced neutral wheat spirit. According to the distillery’s U.S. distributor, the neutral spirit is redistilled on a CARL copper pot still, with the botanicals introduced during a subsequent distillation. The finished spirit is non-chill filtered and bottled at 43% ABV.
Dill Aquavit is currently sold in Iceland in a 500 ml bottle under Vínbúðin product number 30187, while a 700 ml export format is also documented. It remains an active product in the distillery’s range.
About the producer
64° Reykjavík Distillery
Hafnarfjörður, Höfuðborgarsvæði, Iceland
64° Reykjavík Distillery was established in Iceland in 2009 by Snorri Jónsson and Judith Orlishausen. Contemporary Icelandic reporting dates the company’s founding to September 2009, while the distillery describes itself as the first Icelandic distillery of its kind.
The distillery developed around the use of Icelandic berries and botanicals, with locally sourced and foraged ingredients becoming central to its range. These include crowberries, bilberries, rhubarb, angelica, caraway, juniper and wild Arctic thyme.
Over the years, Reykjavík Distillery has produced liqueurs, gin, vodka, whisky and aquavit under the 64° Reykjavík Distillery identity. Its Brennivín is built around caraway, while its later Dill Aquavit is a separate taffel-style expression centered on dill together with Icelandic angelica and wild Arctic thyme.
The company continues to operate as an independent small-scale producer. Its current production address is Lónsbraut 6, 220 Hafnarfjörður, despite retaining Reykjavík in its company and brand name.
