KALAND Aquavit is a barrel-aged aquavit produced by the MAENNERHOBBY Brennerei in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is based on the distillery’s classic KALAND Kümmel, a traditional North German caraway spirit, which is then matured in wooden barrels previously filled with high-quality rum.

The idea for this expression emerged when the distillery’s barrel supplier tested how KALAND Kümmel behaved when “married” with wood. The surprising result – a harmonious blend of rum notes and caraway – inspired MAENNERHOBBY to fill several ex-rum casks with their Kümmel. After an extended period of maturation, the spirit developed into KALAND Aquavit, combining the spicy, herbal character of North German Kümmel with warm, sweet, and subtly tropical impressions from the Caribbean rum casks.
