Steinhuder Aalquavit
Isernhagen, Lower Saxony, Germany
Steinhuder Aalquavit is a regional-style aquavit created specifically to accompany traditional fish dishes from Steinhude, particularly the iconic smoked eel (“Steinhuder Rauchaal”). Designed as the classic digestif after a hearty local meal, it was developed for the Schweer’s brand and distilled exclusively for them.
The recipe is built on extra-fine filtered alcohol and a selection of botanicals centered around caraway and dill, reflecting the classic Northern German aquavit profile. The result is a clean, crisp spirit intended to be enjoyed as a “klarer Schnaps” after fish dishes—and according to the producers, one that may easily invite a second round.
Steinhuder Aalquavit is produced by Rossgoschen Spirituosen Manufaktur (Herzlieb & Weiding GbR) in Hannover–Isernhagen and is positioned as a straightforward, well-crafted regional aquavit.
