Thüringer Aquavit

Unaged Aquavit

Thüringer Kloßschnaps Aquavit is an aquavit produced by Siegmundiner Destillerie & Likörmanufaktur in Schleiz, Thuringia. The spirit is based on a caraway distillate and bottled at 40% ABV. It is characterized by its natural light cloudiness, which visually recalls Kloßwasser – the cooking water of traditional Thuringian potato dumplings. This reference connects the spirit directly to regional culinary culture.

The flavour is dominated by spicy, pronounced caraway notes with a fresh, slightly herbal profile and mild bitterness. Thüringer Kloßschnaps is typically served well chilled and is commonly enjoyed with hearty Thuringian dishes or as a digestif after a traditional Sunday meal.

Siegmundiner Destillerie & Likörmanufaktur

Germany Schleiz, Thuringia, Germany

Siegmundiner Destillerie & Likörmanufaktur is a traditional family-owned producer from Thuringia, founded in 1925 by A. O. Siegmund. The company began as a small herbal-liqueur operation and developed over decades into a regional distillery known for Kräuterlikör, fruit liqueurs and classic Thuringian spirits.

In 2023, the distillery was taken over by Manuel and Jessica Metzner, who continue the company’s recipes and brand heritage. In 2024, Siegmundiner began relocating production to Zeulenroda, where the new distillery is being built within the MANOAH GenussQuelle area.

The product range includes herbal and fruit liqueurs, regional specialties and Thüringer Kloßschnaps (Aquavit). Despite modernization, the distillery continues to work with long-established formulations and a strong regional identity.
